Gout is caued by the build up of uric acid in the body.  When enough of it accumulates it can form into razor-sharp crystals that reek havoc on your joints.  Decreasing your levels of uric acid is key to getting through a gout attack or preventing them altogether.

Eating the Wrong Foods

Not Drinking Enough Water

These days it’s so easy to neglect water in favor of sugar filled sodas or alcohol. The bad thing about this is that uric acid crystals will have a much easier time forming in your body if it isn’t properly hydrated. To prevent gout you’re going to want to put down that soda and start drinking half your body weight in ounces of water a day. So if you weigh 200 pounds you’re going to need to drink 100 ounces of water.

Bonus Tip: Control Your Breathing

One of your bodies main ways of regulating its ph balance is through breathing.  When you breathe out you expell carbondioxide and the body becomes less acidic.  When you breathe shallowly not as much acid is explelled.  Try to practice regular breathing exercises and learn to breathe with your full lung capacity.
