  1. I worked in the grocery business for a total of 15 years and we sold cases, seriously, cases of 100% Cherry Juice. It comes in 32oz or 64 oz glass jars and is suppose to help with gout tremendously. Hope I helped.

  2. Per the website: arthritis.about.com avoid these foods for gout:

Foods very high in purines include:
    hearts,herring,mussels,yeast,smelt,sardines,sweetbreads
Foods moderately high in purines include:
    anchovies,grouse,mutton,veal,bacon,liver,salmon,turkey,kidneys,partridge,troutgoose,haddock,pheasant,scallops

The website also recommends to limit alcohol use. My father has gout, he had to quit drinking his beer.

Try to make him eat less meat and fish, avoid alot of fat. Eating more grains, fruit & vegetables are recommended and will help him feel full with less calories. Drinking alot of water or other drinks is also recommended.

I myself have arthitis. I noticed it when I was in my twenties. There’s alot of older people that drink the cherry juice to help with arthritis (not specifically gout). Green beans also help, but these people prefer to buy the $ 17 bottle of cherry juice.

I know from personal experience that drinking or eating anything bitter or acidic worsens the joint arthritis for me.. Things like coffee, tea, oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes and vinegar are hard on your joints. The website actually recommended coffee, tea and tomatoes to eat for people with gout. But gout is more of the swelling of the tissues and joint rather than the deterioration of the joint itself.

All fruits and vegetables are good for body maintence and fighting diseases. I realize if your grandpa doesn’t like vegetables it might be easier said than done to get him to eat his veggies or fruit.

    Hope this helps.
