Most untreated patients with gout will experience a second episode within two years.
I suggest that patients with gout, particularly if they are overweight, get on a diet that emphasizes caloric restriction, allowing an increased proportion of protein, replacement of refined with complex carbohydrates, and decreased saturated fat.
The increased dietary protein should come from low fat dairy products, not red meat and fish.
I also instruct patients with gout to limit intake of beer and spirits.
Drug therapy is recommended in patients with a history of gout who have frequent and disabling attacks of gouty arthritis (three or more per year), clinical or radiographic signs of chronic gouty joint disease, tophi, renal insufficiency, recurrent nephrolithiasis, or urinary uric acid excretion >1100 mg/day
Your own physician can tell you more regarding treatment for your particular case.
Best of luck.

Try taking 2 Tsp of Organic Cider Vinegar with 2 Tsp of Honey in a small amount of warm water 2 times a day. The cider vinegar disolves uric acid crystals (the sharp crystals deposit in joint space causing extreme pain) that causes gout and the honey makes it more palatable.

Stay away from organ meats like liver, brains, tongue etc. Organ meats have been one of my grand-fathers’ and fathers’ down falls and they had gout. If you are watching your intake of salt and calories and you still have painful gout episodes, I seriously think you should seek medical treatment. Good luck to you!

My husband has suffered from Gout for a few years now. He has been in such pain. Last summer, he was stuck on the bed and had to use crutches, as he was afflicted from his toe up to his knee. Tylenol arthritis was the best for pain. We went to an herbal shop and after much research and consultation found that he can buy Black Cherry capsuls to help relieve inflammation and he also takes Devil’s Claw made by nature’s way. For a while we were buying the Devils’s claw and mincing it with a mortar and pestle. One of the quickest triggers of Gout setting in is dehydration. Drinking soda and caffine containing products instead of water can cause this as well as not sticking as close to the proper diet for Gout. My husband now drinks about three liters of crystal light a day more when it is hot outside or if he is doing anything physical. We werent too sure of the crystal light for flavor but even though it is sugar free it is a very pleasant drink. Since following the devil’s claw, black cherry capsuls and crystal light he has had no Gout like problems. He did stop taking the devil’s claw for about a month and when he felt the tightness start we went immediatly and got the devil’s claw and within two days he was back to normal. If you have no herbal shops near you you can try GNC vitamen type stores. It is not carried at most pharmacies. It is also inexpensive, about 8 dollars for a one month supply. You will take two capsuls twice a day of the devil’s claw and black cherry capsuls. If you buy the devils claw and mince it, make it into a tea and drink about 4 oz twice a day and drink it quickly as it is quite bitter tasting.
Good luck.
