It is definitely better. High sugar drinks such as cider can have a negative effect on uric acid levels. Beer itself has two thinks going against it. Beer is not that low in purines and all alcohol effects the way your body processes purines. Alcohol actually causes your body to make more uric acid out of the purines.
If you are talking about a fermented cider then you should totally stay away from it as well
