Natural Treatment for Gout – A Matter of Will and Self-discipline

It has been known that gout is an excruciating body condition that’s hardly easy to bear. For cases like these, natural remedies have been studied over the years as the most effective methods to do away with such pain.

There is a medical consideration that most gout medications prescribed by physicians, are liable to produce unhealthy side effects after taken for quite some time. So unlike natural treatments for gout which are out of harm’s way and are not likely to result in side effects.

Understanding the effectiveness of natural treatments needs an equal understanding as to the causes and symptoms of gout.

Basics of Gout

Gout is characterized as the result of a buildup of uric acids in the body joints. Those who suffer gout are incapable of properly excreting the uric acid in the body. Based on medical studies, amassed uric acid could be a direct result of several health disorders such as the malfunction of the kidneys, increase in uric acid production in the body, or an excessive consumption of purine-rich food.

Symptoms of Gouts

If you are afflicted by this disease, the usual symptoms that will beset you are described as abrupt and may appear without any warnings. Therefore, it is always best to know the natural treatment for gout so you could cut the build-up as early as you can. The following are the symptoms you may feel once gout sets in:

• Swift agonizing pain in the big toe as the main gout symptom;

• Warmth and inflammation of the affected joints;

• Reddening of the skin on the affected joints

• Gout can also appear at the joints of the fingers, elbows, ankles, wrists, and ears

• Some gout victims experience other accompanying symptoms such as fever or chills, and rapid heartbeats.

• The pain from gout attacks can prolong for hours, days and in some cases, even weeks.

Natural Remedies

Natural treatment for gout should generally start from eliminating its root causes. These natural treatments require a great amount of self-discipline if you are really bent in eliminating gout out of your system:

• Regulate or lessen intake of foods, which are high in purines (shellfish, meat, creamy sauces, dried peas, etc) because they produce high levels of uric acid. This may compromise your cravings for these types of food but this will also mean the prevention of gout formation.

 • Consume plenty of water taken at hourly intervals within the day. Water helps flush out the uric acid from your body.

• Know the foods that may aid in lessening the occurrence of gout. Examples of these foods are but not limited to the following: dairy, high-potassium food, black-cherry juice, blueberries and lemon juice

• Total avoidance of alcohol as a natural gout treatment that brings positive results;

• Exercise your affected part by gently pulling it and moving it in continuous pattern from side to side. Massage it with oils like peppermint, lavender, chamomile, and geranium.

• One home treatment method is to soak your affected part in a basin of warm water with Epsom salt. Dilute 3 tablespoons of Epsom salt in the warm water and soak the affected joint in about 30 minutes.

• Lessen your consumption of caffeine beverages.

These natural treatments for gout are the safest and easiest ways to dissipate gout in your joints. All it takes is self-discipline and the will to keep gout away.

Gusty, my eight year old budgie, died the day before Christmas 2010. One morning his foot was bothering him, so he went to see his vet that afternoon. The vet said he had some arthritis and prescribed some pain medicine. Three days later my little Gusty died in my hands. I miss him so much. An overseas avian vet, who is highly respected, said that it sounded like Gusty had gout and kidney disease, possibly from heavy metal poisoning. The song is called, “Fly,” by Celine Dion.
