When you eat too much meat or beer and you body doesn’t break it down very well your body gives off a acid call uric acid in your blood. Then the acid hardens in the ankles toes ect and they are jaggedy. The sharpness is the pain you feel when you step with that foot or feet.

Gout (also known as podagra when it involves the big toe[1]) is a medical condition usually characterized by recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis—a red, tender, hot, swollen joint. The metatarsal-phalangeal joint at the base of the big toe is the most commonly affected, in around half of all cases. However, it may also present as tophi, kidney stones, or urate nephropathy. It is caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood which crystallize and are deposited in joints, tendons, and surrounding tissues.

It is related to arthritis. It’s when too much uric acid (dissolves in blood and is carried to kidneys and expelled in urine) builds up in the body and starts to form as crystals at a joint and the joint becomes inflamed.
