Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Foods to Avoid for People with Gout

People with gout need to always remember what foods to avoid in order to avoid the flare-ups or the attacks and in order to treat gout. These would be foods that can increase our body’s uric acid levels, and can thus increase the risks of worsening gout. Gout is a kind of arthritis that results from excessive uric acid levels in the blood.

One of the foods to avoid for people with gout is alcohol. Whether the alcohol is beer or wine, anything that has to do with alcohol is known to have diuretic effects that can lead to dehydration. In turn, dehydration can trigger gout flare-ups. Even if different kinds of alcohol have varying effects, with some causing lesser effects on uric acid levels than others, it would still be safer if alcohol were avoided altogether.

If you have gout, you should also avoid soft drinks. Soft drinks and some juice drinks contain extremely high amount of fructose and sugar. According to various studies, there is a strong relation between the consumption of fructose and a person’s risk of developing gout. These studies also show that those who consumed two or more servings a day increased their risk of developing gout by approximately 80%, which is extremely high! This only concludes that soft drinks can really be that harmful.

Another important set of foods that you should avoid is anything that has bad fats, such as those found in red meat. A healthier option would be the fats found in salmon or mackerel, so these should be part of your diet rather than the red meats.

Although saying “no” to these delicious and tempting foods to avoid for people with gout might be difficult at the start, the long-term effects are very much worth the effort. This list will help you achieve your goal of becoming healthier and of feeling way much better.

My Dad also suffers from gout, in his feet mostly so I can sympathize. He has tried meds, specific food regimens and even some type of drink that you mix. It’s not curable and it really makes me sad too when he has an attack. I hate to say it but nothing has worked for him, the whole drink mixture thing was something that over time was supposed to work but I don’t think he took it long enough and I think it was too expensive for him to keep taking with no proven results. Sorry, I know this hasn’t been too helpful, but just wanted you to know that I’m in the same situation :)

Foods To Avoid To Keep Gout Under Control. How To Cure Gout Permanently Once For All

Foods to Avoid to Keep Gout Under Control. How to Cure Gout Permanently Once for All

In order to keep gout under control, definitely one has to avoid foods that are rich in proteins and purines especially sea foods.

The cause of gout is a high blood level of uric acids which is a waste product. The waste product is a breakdown of purines which are substances naturally found in your body. Purines are also found in several types of food.

The treatment of gout, in times past, included very strict dietary regiments but because of medications that are used to combat gout the regiments are not as harsh as they once were.

There still are some recommended dietary modifications though as they can greatly help your chances of avoiding gout flare-ups. Many medications for gout cause many, potentially serious, side effects so dietary modifications can be a better option than the medications.

Some of the foods that are high in purines and should be avoided are liver, brain, kidney, sweetbread, anchovies, peas, beans, mackerel, mincemeat, scallops, muscles, and herring in order to keep gout under control. Other foods such as poultry, meat, and fish have lesser amounts of purines so it is suggested that they be eaten in moderation.

Other ways that you can lower the risk of gout naturally are:

Avoiding alcohol altogether or only drinking it in moderation, perhaps saving yourself for special occasions only. Drinking a lot of alcohol increases the risk of hyperuricemia, as the alcohol gets in the way of the natural removal of uric acids from the body. If you have gout and especially if you are having a gout attack alcohol should be avoided completely.
Make sure to drink plenty of fluids to flush the system of uric acids. Aim for around 2 liters of water a day, more if you are exercising or have a physical job.
Try to maintain a healthy weight. The more excess weight you are holding the more stress is then put on your joints increasing the possibility of gout.
Try to lose excess weight but do not do so by rapid weight loss diets as they can increase uric acid levels in the blood. In weight loss also avoid low-carb diets as they are high in fat and protein. Consuming too much of these types of foods can increase your chances of developing hyperuricemia.

Foods that are low in purines will help in keeping gout at bay. Below is a list of foods which are low in purines.

Breakfast – Cereals and breads, coffee, tea, oatmeal, eggs, fruits, juices, cheese (low fat), milk, and peanut butter.
Lunch – Nuts and peanut butter, pasta macaroni, soups, cream style soups, cheeses (low fat) and  broths
Dinner – Pasta, macaroni, eggs, vegetables, breads and cereals, low-fat cheeses and soups.

Other foods and food items low in purines are gelatin, fats and oils (in small amounts), soda, sugar, syrups, and other sweets in moderation.

As with anything, moderation is the key to a low purine diet. Some foods which have a moderate purine level are: beef, lamb, pork, vegetables such as mushrooms, asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, wheat germ, all types of yeast and gravies.

It is ok to have these foods as long is it is in moderation. Even foods that are high in purines can be eaten occasionally unless you have gout or are having an attack of gout.

Key Foods to Avoid With Gout

Foods to avoid with gout are those high in ‘purines’. Unfortunately these foods are some of our most common and satisfying foods and it can be quite difficult to avoid these foods completely. But avoid them you must if you don’t want to continue suffering excruciating gout pains. This article lists the key foods to avoid with gout, i.e. those foods having high purine levels.

Firstly, what is gout? Gout is caused by raised levels of uric acid in your bloodstream. Now, under normal conditions, uric acid is produced naturally by the breakdown of a chemical compound called ‘purines’ when your body processes your food. Your kidneys then keep the blood levels of uric acid managed and balanced. However, under certain conditions the kidneys can fail to do this, with the result that you have excess uric acid in your bloodstream.

This excess uric acid then forms sharp, needle-like crystals that deposit themselves in your joints. The most common areas are your big toes, ankles and knees. But they can build up anywhere such as elbows, fingers, thumbs, wrists, etc. And the outcome is the excruciating pain of gout that completely disrupts your life.

Because the key here is the ‘purines’ in your food, foods to avoid with gout are those high in purines. And for the most part  these are also high-protein foods. The following list gives some key foods to avoid completely if you have gout…

Anchovies, bouillon, brains, broth, consomme, dried legumes, fish, goose, gravy, heart, herring, kidneys, liver, mackerel, red meat, meat extracts, mincemeat, mussels, partridge, poultry (especially turkey), roe, sardines, scallops, shellfish, shrimps, sweetbreads, baker’s yeast, brewer’s yeast, yeast extracts. And you must avoid all alcohol.

Important as this ‘foods to avoid with gout’ list is, on its own it isn’t a ‘silver bullet’ cure. Things are more complicated than that. For example your general lifestyle and things like your weight and general health have an impact on your gout. And of course if you’re suffering terribly right now you need fast gout relief, preferably today.

To get important information on how to get gout relief today in 2 hours and on how to prevent your gout returning, go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and download your report right now.

The author constantly researches health issues then writes reports on his findings so that you are perhaps better able to make an informed decision on your choice of treatment and cure. Remember to always consult your doctor. http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com
