Well your toe would swell up with gout, and an ingrown toenail would hurt predominately around the nail area. Gout affects the joints. Of course you should see your regular doctor who is treating your blood clot problem before you resort to a foot doctor.

Question by Stefanie: What is the connection between sepsis, gout, hypertension and heart failure (CHF)?
Someone was admitted to the hospital for sepsis and was put on drugs for gout, heart failure (CHF) and hypertension. Can heart failure cause sepsis or the other way around? Can gout cause sepsis or sepsis cause gout? and what connection does hypertension have with sepsis?
Any help will be appreciated.

Answer by B
Gout can cause sepsis which can cause hypertension, which can cause congestive heart failure. Gout is a collection of uria crystals (nitrogenous waste) which increases the likelihood of infection in that area. Infection can travel into the blood stream causes sepsis. Which is early stages can cause an increase in blood pressure (hypertension) before it all drops. Hypertension can cause a VQ mismatch that can casue a backup of fluid in the heart (congestive heart failure).

Question by Samfusco: My Grandfather have been suffering from gout but only developes pain between the 4th-7th of every month?
I want to know what may be causing this. He is a diabetic and has had several surgery’s. for hip replacement, prostate cancer (and still receiving medication), renal cancer, and has a heart arrhythmia (which lead to water filling the interstitial space in lower body; which is also receiving medication to help void the excess fluid). Any idea of what could of caused this besides a drug interaction. Especially why pain only occurs during the 4th and 7th of every month on the dot. (i.e. pollen, lunar cycle)

If your grandfather has these health complications then im sure he is on a strict medicine regiment. If it is at these times of the month it could be a side effect from some medication that he is taking that reaching its peak during this period. If it is happening at the same time every month this seems to be a logical explanation.
Another scenario would be that this is the period when the medications are not working properly and excess fluid is collecting in the regions of pain (heart arrhythmia).
You might ask his physician to change his regiment of medications to see if this time period changes. This would be a very gradual process.

Question by MIKEY: What is the diffrent between Tienns elbow and Gout?
Is Tenns elbow and Gout almost the same?
Best answer:
Answer by Dr. Tina
No. Lateral Epicondylitis also known as tennis elbow is completely different from Gout. The lateral epicondyle is on bony protuberance on the lateral aspect of the humerus at the elbow. If you turn you arm so that your hand is facing upward and slightly bend your elbow you can feel a little bump on the outside of your elbow. That is the lateral epicondyle. The muscle group that extends your wrist backward (extensors) as well as the muscle group that allows you to turn your hand upward (supinator) attach to the lateral epicondyle. Muscles attach to bone by way of tendons. It was thought that there was inflammation of these two tendons at the junction of the lateral elbow. Studies have show that the pain is not due to inflammation. It is due to degenerative changes of the tendons of the extensor and supinator muscles. The degeneration can be caused by repetitive motion, over use, over extension of the wrist or over supination. It is equally common in men and women. It usually occurs between the ages 30 and 60.
Gout is a condition in which uric acid salts build up in the urine and then get into the blood stream. These crystal have a tendency to deposit themselves in the fluid of the joints. 50% of the time gout affects the big toe. These crystal can also be deposited in the knees, wrist and ankles. It is unusual for them to deposit in the elbow but not unheard of. Gout is very painful. Even the skin over the affected joint hurts. It is more prevalent in men than in women especially under the age of 60. Women over age 60 seem to get gout at the same rate as men. African Americans have a higher incidence of gout.
Since Gout is not usually seen in the elbow, the person can go misdiagnosed for years with tennis elbow. Diagnosis is made by visualizing the uric acid crystal in the joint fluid.
Both Lateral Epicondylitis are treated with steroids and NSAIDS. Other treatment necessary to address these conditions are different. It is important to determine if you have lateral epicondylitis or gout in your elbow in order to be treated effectively.

Gout is a medical condition that usually presents with recurrent attacks of acute inflammatory arthritis (red, tender, hot, swollen joint). It is caused by elevated levels of uric acid in the blood. The uric acid crystallizes and deposits in joints, tendons, and surrounding tissues while arthritis is just inflammation of a joint or joints.

There has always been a battle between myths and facts when it came to gout. This battle has been fought over the cause and treatments of the gout. Some said that your gout can only be treated with medications and gout is caused mainly by your poor diet, whereas others strongly believed otherwise. The fact is that there are many steps that one can take to relieve his/ her gout symptoms and diet is maybe one of the last reasons for developing a gout.
To be more sure of these facts, here are some useful gout information. First of all, gout is actually another from of arthritis. Crystals are formed in your joints. The main gout target are people whose bodies produce a bigger quantity of uric acid of do not eliminate as much of this acid as they should. So, as you can see, uric acid is the main culprit in a gout case. The most common area for a gout is the joint in your big toe , although all your other joints can be affected by a gout as well.
As I have said before, the main reason that causes a gout is uric acid in larger quantities than needed. This chemical breaks and builds up food and tissues. Now, you are maybe wondering what causes this uric acid excess. well, to break down the myth, here are some of the main causes:
- an increased production of this acid can lead to a gout;
- a poor elimination of this acid is also another cause that lead to gout; this poor elimination is cause by your kidneys;
- and last eating foods that contain purine;
So, as you can see, diet is not the main culprit of a gout, but as in any myth there is some truth, it is one of the causes.
In the other case, where the myth states that gout can only be treated with medication, let me prove otherwise. Loss of weight can be very beneficial in your gout case. People that have a few extra pounds are more at risk of developing a gout. Furthermore, loosing of weight can relieve your gout symptoms. Changes in your diet can also relieve the gout symptoms and even prevent gout. Try to avoid ant foods containing purine, alcohol and sugar. Cherry juice is also known for preventing a gout attack.
In conclusion, there is some truth in myths, but when it comes to gout, better believe the facts.
