Question by Stefanie: What is the connection between sepsis, gout, hypertension and heart failure (CHF)?
Someone was admitted to the hospital for sepsis and was put on drugs for gout, heart failure (CHF) and hypertension. Can heart failure cause sepsis or the other way around? Can gout cause sepsis or sepsis cause gout? and what connection does hypertension have with sepsis?
Any help will be appreciated.

Gout can cause sepsis which can cause hypertension, which can cause congestive heart failure. Gout is a collection of uria crystals (nitrogenous waste) which increases the likelihood of infection in that area. Infection can travel into the blood stream causes sepsis. Which is early stages can cause an increase in blood pressure (hypertension) before it all drops. Hypertension can cause a VQ mismatch that can casue a backup of fluid in the heart (congestive heart failure).
