Question by tommy t: Has anyone suffered from Gout? What do you take for this? What foods should I eat or not eat?

Answer by GGGG lou EEEE
My mom has bouts of it from time to time. There are medications they can give you to help. One food item that is good to keep it at bay is cherries. Fresh, dried, or in juice. If they are not in season, you can find dried cherries or find them in the freezer.
Try to stay away from meats, especially liver, kidneys, beer, yeasts, mushroom and spinach as these foods are high in Purine. Purine turns into uric acid in the body. Gout is caused by either your body producing too much uric acid or the inability of the kidneys to process it out of your body. You should see a doctor for medication.

Question by Joel: can you take colchicine and ibuprofen at the same time for gout?

Best answer:

Answer by Hemen Ee
NO! Both of them are toxic anti-inflammatory drugs. And both of them have potential side effects on your gastrointestinal. Taking both of them together may result in serious stomach discomfort such as nausea, vomitting or diarrhea.

I wonder that it is your doctor that suggested you to take both of those drugs together or it is just your personal intention to do so due the intense gout pain you are experiencing now. What ever the reason it is, my personal experience with hundreds of gout patients tells me that is not a wise move.

Look, those drugs are just temporary relief to the pain you are suffering now. There is no instant cure for you gout problem, but there is a gradual way to get rid of the root of the problem by slowing neutralizing the uric acid crystals that are hidden in your joints or muscles. You need to be rational and shift your perspective on gout, then only you will see the ultimate way out from this gouty devil. All the best!

Dietary changes can help reduce uric acid levels in the blood. Since purine chemicals are converted by the body into uric acid, purine-rich foods are avoided. Examples of foods rich in purines include shellfish and organ meats such as liver, brains, kidneys, and sweetbreads. Researchers have reported, in general, that meat or seafood consumption increases the risk of gout attacks, while dairy food consumption seemed to reduce the risk. Protein intake or purine-rich vegetable consumption was not associated with an increased risk of gout. Total alcohol intake was strongly associated with an increased risk of gout (beer and liquor were particularly strong factors). Fructose from the corn syrup in soft drinks also increases the risk of gout.

Weight reduction can be helpful in lowering the risk of recurrent attacks of gout. This is best accomplished by reducing dietary fat and calorie intake, combined with a regular aerobic exercise program.

There are three aspects to the treatment of gout with medications. First, pain relievers such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or other more potent analgesics are used to manage pain. Secondly, anti-inflammatory agents such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), colchicine, and corticosteroids are used to decrease joint inflammation. Finally, medications are considered for managing the chronic underlying metabolic derangement that causes hyperuricemia and gout. This means treating the elevated levels of uric acid in the blood with medications that reduce these levels.

That’s a lot, if you’re an average size person. Typical onset of relief is about 20-30 minutes.

Personally, I get better results with ibuprofen.
