High Uric Acid Foods To Avoid If You Have Gout

Want to know the high uric acid foods to avoid if you have gout, and want to prevent future attacks? Here, you’ll discover a list of foods to avoid, plus, a list of low uric acid foods you can eat as a gout sufferer.

WHAT ARE THE CAUSES OF HIGH URIC ACID?

In order to understand this, you need to be familiar with natural chemical compounds that all of us have in our bodies, and, that also exists in our foods. These compounds are called “purines”. They are essential in the process that provides us with our protein and energy.

During this process, however, purines actually breakdown, and one of the byproducts of this reaction is uric acid in your bloodstream. Your kidneys then process and expel excess uric acid from your system via your bladder and urine.

Unfortunately, when either there is too much uric acid being produced, or, your kidneys cannot process it fast or efficiently enough, excess acid is retained in your bloodstream and circulated around your body. This excess acid can then be deposited in crystalline form in your joints (your big toes the majority of the time, but other joints as well).

Under the microscope these crystals are in the form of tiny needles which give rise to the symptoms of gout; redness, swelling, inflammation and, of course, unbelievable pain.

BUT WHY SHOULD SOME FOODS BE AVOIDED i.e. HIGH URIC ACID FOODS?

Remember above how uric acid is produced by purines, and, purines also exist in our food? Well, too much purines can lead to too much acid for your kidneys to handle and you end up with excess acid in your blood, leading to crystals in your joints and thus a gout attack!

]]>

So it’s just common sense that someone suffering a gout attack, or, someone who suffers from regular gout attacks, should avoid foods that are high in purines.

And it becomes even more important when you learn that once having one gout attack, you’re almost certain to have others. And frequent, regular gout attacks can lead to permanently damaged joints and kidney stones.

HIGH URIC ACID FOODS TO AVOID (HIGH PURINE FOODS)

The following are foods that are either high or very high in purines and should be avoided…

Heart, liver, kidneys, brains, sweetbreads, broth, comsomme, gravy, meat extracts, red meat, shellfish, mackerel, sardines, herring, fish roe, goose, turkey, partridge, baker’s and brewer’s yeast, and yeast extracts. Plus, you must avoid all alcohol, but particularly beer.

The following are foods which are moderately high in purines and should be drastically reduced, or, better still avoided altogether…

Asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, lentils, legumes, spinach, dried peas, oatmeal, and soy.

FOODS YOU CAN EAT AS PART OF A LOW URIC ACID DIET

The following are foods that can make up a sensible, relatively low purine diet…

Essential fatty acids (e.g. salmon, tuna, seeds, flaxseed, nuts etc.), complex carbohydrates (e.g. pasta, rice, cereals, green-leafy vegetables, fruit, bread — but avoid white flour products), low-fat dairy products, foods high in vitamin C (e.g. potatoes, red cabbage, red bell peppers, oranges, tangerines, mandarins, etc.), fruit juices, and drink at least 2 liters of fresh water every day to help your kidneys flush excess uric acid from your system.

WANT TO FIND OUT MORE?

Your diet is at the heart of your recovery from high uric acid levels leading to gout. But, as with most things in life, it isn’t quite as simple as that. There are many other issues for you to consider in order to relieve the symptoms of gout, and, reduce high uric acid levels in the blood. Also to prevent future gout attacks and possible joint and kidney damage.

Uric Acid Crystals – How to Eliminate Uric Acid Gout Naturally

You’ll discover here how uric acid crystals cause uric acid gout pain and how you can eliminate the pain using 6 totally natural gout remedies. Uric acid crystals in your joints cause the painful symptoms of gout; inflammation, redness, swelling, heat etc. But where do they come from and how do you (1) get rid of them, and, (2) prevent them appearing again?

The agonizing pain of gout is caused by needle-like uric acid crystals which have been deposited in your joints. The vast majority of gout cases concern the big toe, but the crystals can appear in most joints. The crystals are formed from excess uric acid in the bloodstream, that your kidneys have been unable to process and flush out of your system through your urine.

Uric acid is a byproduct of the metabolism of purines in your body. Purines are chemical compounds that convert the food you eat into energy and genes into protein, as well as ridding cells of extra nitrogen and protecting them against cancer causing agents. So they are very important. But during this process they breakdown and produce uric acid. Any excess not expelled from your body can then turn into crystals in your joints.

Here are 6 natural gout remedies to get rid of uric acid crystals:-

(1) Drink at least 2 litres of water every day to help your kidneys flush-out excess acid.

(2) Avoid foods high in purines, such as red meats, offal, broth, poultry (especially turkey), shellfish, legumes, yeast, etc.

(3) Eat a handful of cherries with each meal. Cherries have anti-inflammatory properties.

(4) Take 5 servings of fresh vegetables each day to help flush-out acid. But not asparagus, mushrooms or cauliflower: they can make things worse.

(5) Eat plenty of fresh fruits that are high in vitamin C to help reduce acid levels. But avoid very acidic fruits like oranges, tomatoes (yes a tomato is a fruit!), etc.

(6) Apply hot / cold compresses to the affected area. Hot for 3 minutes; cold for 30 seconds; continue for 20 minutes.

These natural gout remedies will help, but more is needed, because gout is quite complex. There are many issues that can affect whether you get gout and how you respond to treatment; for example your weight, family history of gout, diet, medications, health position, etc.

The key then is to do two things; (1) eliminate your gout as fast as possible, then, (2) treat to ensure that it doesn’t return in the future, because recurring gout can cause kidney problems and permanent joint damage.

You can find out exactly how to do this with an easy, step-by-step natural gout remedy report that thousands of ex-gout victims around the world have successfully used. And it doesn’t matter if you have gout toe, ankle or knee etc., this report has everything covered.

To find out exactly what these ex-gout sufferers know that you don’t, and, to get gout pain relief in 2 hours, please go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and start on your guaranteed gout cure in minutes.

High Uric Acid In Blood Test – Testing For Gout

A test for high uric acid in blood may be called for when your doctor suspects that you may be suffering from gout. Recurring gout attacks can lead to permanently damaged joints and damaged kidneys, so it’s important always to get diagnosed by your doctor. Here, you’ll discover what causes high uric acid, what blood and urine tests can reveal, and, a summary of both drug-based and natural treatments for gout.

A blood test on its own will indicate measured levels of uric acid in your blood. This will tell the doctor whether you have higher-than-normal uric acid levels, and thus gout.

But a combined test which measures the levels of uric acid in both your blood and your urine can give an indication whether it’s your kidneys that aren’t working efficiently enough, or, that there is too much “purines” being produced in your body in the first place.

So what are these purines? They are chemical compounds that we find in our bodies and foods. They are used by our bodies in the processes that provide our bodies with protein and energy. But during those processes, the purines breakdown and uric acid is produced.

Your kidneys first process, then expel, excess uric acid from your body, leaving enough to act as beneficial antioxidants. But, in conditions where either, your kidneys aren’t able to process the acid efficiently enough, or, there is too much being produced by the breakdown of purines, then the excess acid is retained.

In other words there is too much uric acid being circulated in your blood. This then causes your gout, with all its symptoms like redness, inflammation, swelling and agonizing pain.

The combined test will thus establish, first, if you have higher than normal acid levels in your system, and secondly, whether this is caused by too much acid being produced, or, because you kidneys aren’t working efficiently.

If the levels in both your blood and your urine are the same, it indicates that your kidneys are o.k. and that too much is being produced. On the other hand, if the levels in your urine are less than in your blood, this indicates that it is your kidneys that aren’t processing the acid efficiently enough. Either way there is too much in your body and, all too often, the result is painful gout.

Most gout sufferers are prescribed drugs to deal with the symptoms of a gout attack which can last for a week, even longer. These are typically colchicines, corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs). You may also be described things like allopurinol to help reduce the high uric acid levels in your blood. These drugs have proven to be very effective.

But, they can only address the symptoms and not the underlying causes of high uric acid levels. Even the drugs to reduce the acid levels don’t do this. They can reduce the levels but not do anything about these underlying issues. So that, if you were to come off them, your levels are likely to rise again. This is why gout sufferers more or less take these everyday for the rest of their lives.

And let’s not forget their nasty side effects like headaches, diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps, bleeding and stomach ulcers.

You can see then why so many people nowadays are turning to safer, more longer lasting natural remedies to treat their condition. There is just too much to go into detail here, but typical remedies are:-

(1) Drinking 2 to 3 liters of water every day to help flush uric acid out of your system.

(2) Eating cherries each day for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

(3) Using alternating hot and cold compresses to help circulation and reduce inflammation.

(4) Drinking raw apple cider on a daily basis to help alter blood pH and neutralize uric acid.

(5) Changing to a low-purine diet to reduce the amount of uric acid being produced in your system.

Totally natural remedies can both eliminate the symptoms of gout in the same way as drugs (but without their side effects), plus, help you manage your condition in a way that prevents further gout attacks.

And preventing frequent attacks is very important because they can lead to painful kidney stones, other kidney problems, and, permanent joint damage. In addition, once having suffered a gout attack you are extremely likely to suffer even more.

You’re in luck though. There’s a uric acid gout report available online that thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.

And it uses fully-researched, totally natural methods. So that you benefit two ways: (1) you get rid of your excruciating pain very fast, and, (2) you prevent your gout returning, so that you reduce the risk of permanent damage.

Question by fsaroufim: gout may develop at how much blood uric acid range?
my uric acid is 7.5 i am 28 yrs old and exercise a lot .. is it dangerously high ?

Best answer:

Answer by matador 89
fsaroufim,
Uric acid is a chemical created when the body breaks down substances called purines. Purines are found in some foods and drinks, such as liver, anchovies, mackerel, dried beans and peas, beer, and wine. Most uric acid dissolves in blood and travels to the kidneys, where it passes out in urine. If your body produces too much uric acid or doesn’t remove enough if it, you can get sick. High levels of uric acid in the body is called hyperuricemia. The uric acid test is ordered when a doctor suspects high levels of uric acid. Some patients with high levels of uric acid have a disease called gout, which is an inherited disorder that affects purine breakdown. Higher than normal uric acid levels mean that the body is not handling the breakdown of purines well. The doctor will have to learn whether the cause is the over-production of uric acid, or if the body is unable to clear away the uric acid. Reference values are dependent on many factors, including patient age, gender, sample population, and test method, and numeric test results can have different meanings in different labs. Normal values fall between 3.0 and 7.0 mg/dL. The following may not be of use for you. Your level, which you quoted, is only just slightly elevated and may reduce within a short time. I shall mention some methods of reducing the uric acid levels, in case you find this of assistance. The easiest and healthiest way to lower uric acid is though proper eating habits and medication. This includes limiting alcohol and avoiding purine rich foods, which will convert to uric acid. Gout sufferers are usually men over the age of 40 who are mildly to severely obese. As this obviously does not apply to you becuase you state that your age is not 28 and you exercise a lot, you should, therefore, not have a great problem with weight. Therefore, diet and possibly medication – if your doctor decides that you require it – are likely all that you will need. Avoid alcohol consumption to lower uric acid. Large amounts of alcohol, especially beer and wine, both rich in purines, increase uric acid levels. Alcohol prevents excess uric acid from being removed from the kidneys through the urinary tract. Increase your dairy intake to lower your uric acid level. Low fat milk, yogurt and cheese are examples of dairy products considered helpful to gout sufferers. Drink plenty of water to lower uric acid. Liquids that are low in caffeine and calories help to remove uric acid from the blood stream. Since water is the most pure liquid, it should be consumed the most. Eat fruits and vegetables that are not high in purine to reduce uric acid. Fresh fruits including blueberries, strawberries, bananas and cherries are some of the fruits gout sufferers should include in their diet. Celery, tomatoes, cabbage, parsley, kale and all green leaf vegetables are also helpful in low uric acid diets. Follow your physician’s orders and supplement your diet with prescribed medications to reduce uric acid levels and prevent gout. Consult a physician who specializes in treating gout patients. Doctors who specialize in orthopedics, rheumatology and arthritis may have a better handle on treating gout. There are more than a dozen medications a physician can prescribe to help the body remove uric acid from the blood stream.

NOTE – BEWARE of answers like the answer from Mariya, above. This person posts answers to many different questions and advises certain drugs to assist the questioner with their problem. Always discuss the drugs that you take with your doctor, especially if you suffer from any disease or condition that is serious enough to warrant the prescription of a drug. Do NOT consider using any drug suggested in any forum or by any person without first consulting your doctor/specialist.

ALL ANSWERS SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY RESEARCHED, IN ANY FORUM AND ESPECIALLY IN THIS ONE. – MANY ANSWERS ARE FLAWED.

Wondering how to remove uric acid from blood naturally? Then you’ve come to the right place. Here, you’ll discover how to reduce uric acid using 3 simple gout home remedies.

Gout is cause by high uric acid levels in your blood. When high uric acid is present needle-like microscopic crystals can form in your joints. This then gives rise to the swelling, inflammation and unbearable pain of gout.

So, as a gout sufferer, you need to reduce and remove uric acid from your blood in order to get rid of your gout. And you can do this either through drugs, or, through natural remedies.

Drugs such as allopurinol and probenecid can be effective reducers of blood uric acid. But they have to be taken over the longer term as they only work whilst they are being taken. And they have some nasty side effects such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of appetite, skin rash, hives, itching, etc.

So many gout sufferers utilize natural remedies to remove uric acid from their blood in order to get rid of their gout. And there are many such remedies at your disposal; using things like herbs, fruits, diet, etc. Here are 3 popular and effective ones…

(1) Baking Soda.

Baking soda can help to dissolve gout crystals, and, by increasing uric acid solubility, make it easier to remove uric acid from your body.

Mix 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in a large glass of water. Drink 1 glass first thing in the morning, 2 to 4 glasses during the day, and, 1 glass before bedtime. No more than 8 glasses (4 teaspoons) per day. Repeat until your symptoms have gone.

Important Note: Baking soda is high in sodium so move to a low-sodium or salt-free diet whilst taking this remedy. Also, if you suffer from high blood pressure, or you suspect you may, talk to your doctor before using this remedy.

(2) Cherries

Cherries have excellent anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, as well as the ability to reduce uric acid in the blood. So they are also an excellent natural home treatment choice.

Eat between 30 and 40 cherries, every 4 hours during a gout attack. After an attack, to keep your uric acid at healthier lower levels, eat 30 to 40 cherries every day.

(3) Alfalfa

Alfalfa has been shown to dramatically reduce uric acid in blood. The leaves can be made into a tea or you can get it as a supplement in the form of tablets, capsules or liquid extracts. You are best to visit a herbalist and / or a good health food shop. They will advise on dosage.

Next, having removed, or rather, reduced your high uric acid and eliminated your current gout attack, you now need to prevent more attacks. In case you weren’t aware, frequently recurring gout attacks can lead to permanently damaged joints and kidney problems over time.

And if you’ve suffered one gout attack you’re now more likely to suffer more. So you need to figure out what you need to do to prevent these. You need to become aware of the impact that lifestyle, diet, your weight, your family history, etc., can have in your getting gout, and, in curing it.

You’re in luck though. There’s a special gout report available online [see below] that has all the information you need in one place. It is what thousands of ex-gout victims worldwide have successfully used to prevent their gout returning. It also contains a special 2 hour gout pain relief program.

And it uses fully-researched, totally natural methods. So that you benefit two ways: (1) you get rid of your excruciating pain very fast, and, (2) you prevent your gout returning, so that you reduce the risk of permanent damage.

If you want to get gout pain relief in 2 hours, plus, prevent your gout returning in the future, then go to http://gout-relief-today.blogspot.com and discover how you can quickly do both without expensive drugs with their horrible side effects.

Are you ready to say good bye to the pain, throbbing and inflammation and finally cure gout? If you are, the next 5 minutes of reading this article could help save your joint and save you hours of pain. And you can do this with 5 simple gout remedies that flush uric acid naturally.

But why uric acid? Because uric acid is the problem causing your gout pain! Uric acid is the by product of the body breaking down purines which you consume in your diet. And the uric acid is usually deposited between joints if it is not flushed from the body. And if you learn how to flush the uric acid, you can cure gout naturally.

How to Cure Gout Naturally

Unfortunately, many people allow doctors to prescribe pain killers for their gout problem. Though you might find temporary comfort, you should know that this will only last months to a few years. In the long run, people who use pain killers for gout as their only treatment are very likely to permanently disfigure the joint.

Therefore, don’t assume that gout pain is completely bad. The body uses pain to let you know that you need to change something with your lifestyle and be careful with the joint. In the case of gout, you need to learn how to flush uric acid from your joints and body.

And here are 5 tips that prescription companies do not want you to know about.

5 Gout Remedies

Though some of these gout remedies may seem a little elementary, you must realize that they serve two purposes. They work to cure the gout symptoms and prevent future attacks.

1. You should drink at least 10 to 12 eight-ounce glasses of water each day. Water will help your body flush the crystals out of your system. And another bonus tip is to drink alkaline water with a pH greater than 7. I believe SmartWater would be beneficial.

2. You may also wish to add a half teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of water too. Baking soda has multiple benefits to gout sufferers including dissolving uric crystals, increases solubility of uric acid, and maximizes the volume of body fluids to aid the kidney in excretion of uric acid.

3. It has also been shown the gout sufferers are typically deficient in key vitamins. One vitamin you should immediately supplement is vitamin A which lowers the levels of uric acid.

4. You may also wish to try herbal therapy. Alfalfa is an excellent choice to neutralize high uric acid levels. In addition to its high source of minerals and nutrients, alfalfa has been shown to help dramatically reduce uric acid.

5. Knowledge is the key to not only treating your gout, but also preventing any additional damage to your body. Therefore, we recommend educating yourself on 20 + remedies that have been shown to reduce uric acid levels in the body. These proven, step by step remedies can be found at our Cure Gout website.
