Acute gout flare up: usually Indocin. Some use colchicine.

Chronic gout maintenance: usually Allopurinol or Probenecid. These two medications can lower uric acid.

  1. Step one…make sure its gout, especially if just one joint involved and its the first time…bacterial joint infections and gout both look and feel the same

    Once you have made a gout diagnosis…the first treatment option, assuming u are not alelrgic, have no ulcer and your kidneys are ok is a non steroidal antiinflammatory…traditionally people have used indocin, but no reason why aleve, motrin/ibuprofen wouldnt work
